We think of ourselves as the best not-quite-an-agency, not-quite-a-recruiting-firm freelance collective you can find. Our talent is in helping independent freelancers find cool projects with vetted clients like yourself. We take on finding new projects, invoicing, and the dreaded cold calls (we kind of love ‘em) while they have more time and energy to focus on delivering stellar work. It’s a solid way to put economy of scale to work and let creatives focus on being creative while we consolidate resources to save everyone time, money, and a whole lotta time on LinkedIn.
Founded in 2022 by copywriter and content strategist Shannon Mulligan, and later expanded to include operational innovator Deirdre Graham, the Freelance Squad is about working smarter, harder, and with more joy. Our primary team is based out of Toronto, but we have freelancers based all over North America.
Want the full story about how we got started? Buy us a beer (New England low-ABV IPAs preferred) and Shannon promises to put her stand-up comedy-trained chops to work with a tale that’s sure to be more entertaining than season 16 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but less entertaining than that one I Think You Should Leave sketch.
If we’re going to work together (and we so hope we will), we think it’s important to ensure we’re on the same page for the small stuff, the big stuff, and everything in between.
Hiding things is only fun when it’s your favourite snack and you don’t want your kids to find it. When it comes to hiding fees, feedback, or feelings, we’re here to talk about it.
This isn't a politics-free zone. We stand for reproductive rights, the 2SLGBQTIA+ community, education, equitable access to food and housing, Black, trans, and Indigenous lives, vaccines, and climate justice—and we wholeheartedly believe that Drag Queen Storytime is integral to raising a better generation.
We’re all learning, improving, and riddled with anxiety. We aim to reduce the latter and add to the former, helping to grow a kind and supportive community with people who are all working hard at working hard.
To include a land acknowledgement seems like the bare minimum that can be done. In addition to calling out that where we call home resides on stolen land of the first people of Turtle Island, we regularly donate to the The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto. We believe in showing respect for the land, for the water, and for the cultures, traditions, virtues, and values of each distinct nation—and for teaching our children to do the same.
